Jakarta, October 25 - The Norwegian government has expressed satisfaction over the implementation of the Letter of Intent it signed with Indonesia in Oslo on May 26, 2010, Kuntoro Mangkusubroto said.
“Norway said it was satisfied with Indonesias performance in the implementation of the LOI,” the chairman of the Presidents Working Unit for Development Supervision and Control (UKP4) said to newsmen here on Monday.
He made the statement after accompanying Norwegian Environment Minister Erik Solheim at a meeting with Vice President Boediono.
He said the Norwegian minister had come to Jakarta to follow up and discuss various achievements that had beem made in the implementation of the LOI.
The Vice President’s spokesman, Yopie Hidayat, said Boediono in the meeting emphasized the importance of the offices that would carry out the agreement further.
“The vice president emphasized which institutions that would handle further efforts especially forest management,” he said.
Indonesia and Norway signed the Letter of Intent in the framework of reducing gas emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.
The agreement was signed by Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa and Norwegian Environment Minister Erik Solheim witnessed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg.
The LOI among others states Indonesia will receive US$1 billion in grants to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degtadation (REDD+).
The LOI would be carried out in three stages with the first being for preparations, followed by implementation and evaluation.
