Nuclear vs renewable energy debate in Australia

Australian lawmakers have traded barbs over the merits of nuclear power as a sustainable energy source. Greens New South Wales MP John Kaye called nuclear energy dangerous, uneconomic and retrograde. This, amid a parliamentary committee’s proposal that the state government of New South Wales open public discussion on nuclear power generation. Kaye said it is contradictory that they want nuclear power debated when the public still awaits the Renewable Action Plan. Kaye said wind and solar power are cheaper to develop and will not have the toxic threats and disposal problems.
