Poor nations to wait another year for the Green Climate Fund

Even if climate funding is one of the linchpin issues at the ongoing UN climate talks in Doha, the European Commission says it still might take a year to start the Green Climate Fund. Artur Runge-Metzger, EC’s lead climate negotiator, said that realistically negotiations will still go on for another year before the climate fund can be firmly established. He said the governing body of the fund, which was set up just last year, has yet to set the rules for the receipt and distribution of the money, the eligibility of projects, and how developing nations can apply for financing. The Green Climate Fund was formed to facilitate some $100 billion in climate aid to poor countries.
