Local investors would be given preference in Punjab as investors for solar energy projects over international lending agencies like the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, said Punjab authorities. Provincial Energy Minister Ch Abdul Ghafoor said the provincial government’s top priority now is to eliminate the energy crisis in three years and the call for solar investments is in line with this goal. The Minister said the energy crisis had been disastrous for the country rendering millions jobless and the industries at a virtual stop. He said the Punjab government is now looking to sign agreements with Germany, Turkey and other countries to ensure a stable power supply.
