Jatin Sarvaiya, a decarbonisation and climate risk strategist for PricewaterhouseCoopers, has joined American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) as global sustainability manager.

Sarvaiya brings to an end a year and a half with the professional services firm to take on a newly created role at ABS, which provides classification and technical advisory services to the marine and offshore industries.
He will be based in Singapore, home to the ABS Global Sustainability Center, one of four global hubs that provide sustainability services to clients worldwide.
The International Maritime Organisation has set a course for net zero shipping by 2050, and ABS works with partners on ways to achieve their decarbonisation goals, for example through vessel design, low-carbon fuels, digital technologies and carbon disclosure.
Sarvaiya will work with Panos Koutsourakis, director of sustainability strategy, who joined ABS to lead the Asia Pacific sustainability team in November.
Sarvaiya started his career as a mechanical engineer working Bahrain and the United Kingdom. He moved to Singapore in 2011 to take on a role as research associate at Nanyang Technological University’s Energy Research Institute. He joined PwC after a stint with engineering firm Exyte.
