Seven local firms were honoured for its sustainable business practices at the inaugural Singapore Sustainability Awards 2010.
Property developer City Developments Limited and power generation company Senoko Power were the winners in the Enterprise Green Adopter category of the Outstanding Sustainability Awards, while Samwoh Corporation and TetraPak Jurong were the winners in the Enterprise Green Technology/Service Enabler category.
The awards, which recognize enterprises in both the private and public sectors with top sustainable business practices, is organised by the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) and Local Global Exhibition & Trade.
The winners were chosen from 23 entries by judges including Member of Parliament Inderjit Singh, and Mr. Tan Wah Yeow, Head of Advisory (Risk & Compliance and Performance & Technology), KPMG Singapore; Mr. Ted Tan, Deputy CEO of SPRING Singapore; Mr. Yew Sung Pei, Assistant CEO of International Enterprise Singapore; and Mr. Victor Tay, Chief Operating Officer of SBF.
SBF chief executive Teng Theng Dar said that the awards “recognize and showcase the most innovative and impactful sustainable business practices and green solutions amongst Corporate Singapore”.
“With these awards, we hope to promote sustainability excellence and sharing of best practices amongst our Singapore organizations across businesses and companies, government agencies and academic institutions so that more organizations will be inspired to adopt similar practices or develop their own,” he said.
Mr. Singh said, “We evaluated a number of companies and institutions that applied for the awards. While we have a few clear winners, I was encouraged at the level of awareness and activities within many companies with regards to sustainable development and green friendly initiatives. I hope these awards will encourage others to learn from those who have done well.”
Another set of awards - the Green IT Awards, organised jointly by SBF, IBM and the Institute of Technical Education, with Frost & Sullivan as the knowledge partner, feature two categories.
Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) won the Enterprise Green IT Award, while Trusted Hub was the winner for the SME category.
The three organisations were chosen from 13 entries for their outstanding and holistic sustainable IT practices and solutions.
IBM Singapore managing director Teresa Lim said the winners “not only successfully implemented sustainable green IT practices to minimise environmental impact, but have also undertaken long term IT planning with a view to environmental responsibility.”
