Members of Parliament passed the Building Control Act on Monday to help Singapore reach its ambitious green building target of bringing 80 per cent of its building stock to a green building standard by 2030.
The initial phase of the plan will affect about 850 buildings, including hotels, retail and office buildings of at least 15,000 square metres, which will have to meet three new requirements beginning next year.
Buildings must meet a minimum Green Mark standard - defined by the Building and Construction Authority - whenever air-conditioning systems are replaced or installed. Owners must submit energy audits for their buildings every three years, and they must report on their energy consumption annually.
