It is one of the co-located events of the World Cities Summit (WCS) 2012.

The Ministry of National Development said Singapore will present the Sustainable Singapore Blueprint and how it balances economic growth and social outcomes through innovative urban development.

Singapore will also share its efforts in the City in a Garden initiative at the Special Report presentation.

The presentation will illustrate how Singapore had evolved from a Garden City to a City in a Garden through partnerships and collaboration with stakeholders on initiatives that have transformed gardens and parks, urban greenery and landscape, and enriched the country’s biodiversity.

The meeting will conclude with the signing of the Singapore Declaration.

The cities will also pledge to promote sustainable urban development through the sharing of knowledge, experience and technology on innovative infrastructure, environmental, energy and social measures.

Minister of State for National Development and Manpower, Mr. Tan Chuan-Jin, said: “It is important for us to realise that sustainable development does not simply refer to just environmentally-conscious growth, but also an underlying drive to improve quality of life and inspire a city’s inhabitants to look to the future in a positive light. Cities should strive to bear this in mind when conceiving new initiatives for its people.”
