In an effort to help the Aquino Administration’s power development program, a foundation started identifying remote communities to assist villagers achieve solar home system generation.
It also learned that the foundation started coordinating with the local government units (LGU’s) for the foundation’s Solar Home System (SHS) program.
Initially, the Solar Energy Foundation (SEF) had already distributed 10 units of portable SHS last week to villages identified by the Surigao Economic Development Foundation, Inc. (SEDF).
Surigao del Norte Gov. Sol F. Matugas was very glad of the SEF program in her province, saying “this will alleviate the power problem in far-flung communities.”
The SHS is an electricity source facility that addresses the problem of over 20 million Filipinos who live in isolated communities without electricity and depend only on kerosene, wood, and disposable batteries to meet their basic energy needs, said SEF board member Philippe Saubier, in a press statement Monday.
Saubier said the Solar Energy Foundation, which was launched last March 16 in the Philippines, works globally to reduce poverty, related to a lack of energy through the use of innovative solar technology solutions.
