The New South Wales far south coast’s big timber processor has confirmed plans to build a wood pellet manufacturing plant.
South East Fibre Exports at Eden is drafting a development application for the facility, which will make fuel from compacted timber waste.
The company says it is a pilot investment for 2011, involving the production of small pellets to fuel domestic and commercial heaters at Eden.
Spokesman, Vince Phillips, says it does not replace plans for a biomass power generator.
“It’s very small by comparison to that,” he said.
“I guess both those things could happen in quite a substantial way together, if that’s what we wish to do.
“At this stage, we’re looking at a very small plant that will only just be almost inconsequential in respect to the amount of fuel that the biomass power plant would intend to use.”
