In a novel initiative aimed at energy conservation and development of sustainable energy resources, Tata Capital Tuesday inaugurated a first-of-its-kind solar-panelled forest at its campus in Thane.
Through ‘Surya Aranya’ or the forest of the sun, the financial services arm of Tata Group aims to promote the use of solar energy.
The solar forest consists of a set of six solar-panelled trees which will power the garden and security lights on the campus from dusk to dawn, producing close to 750 watts of energy, a statement from the company said.
The garden lights have been retro-fitted with LED bulbs which consume less electricity as compared to conventional incandescent or CFL bulbs, it added.
“Our aim is to replicate the initiative across the country, beginning with Tata Capital office premises,” Mukund Rajan, Brand Custodian and Chief Ethics Officer, Tata Sons, said in respect of the move to install the eco-friendly technology.
The initiative is being partnered by the Centre for Environmental Research and Education (CERE), a Mumbai-based not-for-profit organisation.
“Surya Aranya is a unique ‘green’ innovation and is the first of many steps at Tata Capital towards the use of renewable energy,” said Amar Sinhji, head of human resources at Tata Capital.
