A Surabaya-based company PT Asphalindo Anugerah Abadi and CV Wirajasa Teknik Industri have completed the construction of their joint venture project in synthetic or bio-asphalt production. The new factory situated in Sidoarjo, East Java, Indonesia, has started commercial operation since November 2013 after undergoing trial production the previous month.
The new factory has a capacity of 20 tons per day and is developed at a total cost of USD 2 million. The production of synthetic asphalt applies a unique technology that has been developed by Wirajasa Teknik Industry. Main raw materials comprise of waste lubricating oil, used bentonite or bleaching earth and natural resin. The finish product is a synthetic asphalt that has been tested and certified satisfactorily by the Road and Bridge Research and Development Center (Pusjatan) of the Ministry of Public Works.
Both companies have agreed to build a number of similar mills in other regions that include West Java, North and South Sumatra, and Kalimantan. They express optimism that asphalt market in Indonesia and the surrounding regions are quite huge and will become a substitute to imported product. Both sides are quite confident with this line of business thanks to the proven technology, a vast procurement network to secure raw materials and a strong financial support from either internal and external sides or the banking sector.
