Climate friendly refrigerant roadshow on CO2 to hit the road in China

This month sees major players in the Chinese HVAC&R sector take to the road with a series of seminars on ‘Developing a sustainable future together – CO2 in Food Retail’ in China.

February’s CO2 roadshow on ‘Developing a sustainable future together – CO2 in Food Retail’ comprises three seminars held in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou respectively.

Expert speakers from shecco, the Chinese Foreign Economic Cooperation Office (FECO), the Chinese Ministry of Environmental Protection, and Danfoss China will speak about the latest market trends, technology and smart-store solutions using CO2 technologies.

“The goal is to bring stakeholders in China the most up-to-date market insight and solution-ready technology for CO2,” said Hans Ole Matthiesen, global segment director – food retail at Danfoss.

Zhong Zhifeng, Programme Officer – Division III, Foreign Economic Cooperation Office, Ministry of Environmental Protection (FECO/MEP), Jan Dusek – Business Development Manager (APAC) at shecco, and Matthiesen will all be speaking.

They will discuss the use of CO2 as a refrigerant worldwide: regulations, technologies, applications, and insight into the CO2 market in China, as well as current and future market trends and the regulatory and product outlook.

Chinese Association of Refrigeration actively promoting CO2

For the past couple of years, the retail food market in China has seen increased competition, falling prices and thinner margins – sparking interest in energy efficiency and sustainable operations.

Matthiesen said: “CO2 is a hot topic in China. We hope to share our experience and knowledge with our friends in China to help them develop sustainability, energy efficiency and safety.”

The Chinese Association of Refrigeration (CAR), a national scientific organisation in the field of refrigeration and air-conditioning, and the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), have been looking to take advantage of this trend.

CO2 refrigeration technology has already been successfully applied by a number of retailers in China. shecco’s Dusek, says, “CO2 has become the solution for supermarkets and convenience stores in Europe, Japan and increasingly in North America. We consider China to be the next key market where CO2 will make significant inroads in the coming years”.

The seminars take place on 22 February in Beijing at the Crowne Plaza Beijing Sun Palace, on 24 February in Shanghai at the Renaissance Shanghai Caohejing Hotel, and on 27 February in Guangzhou at the Sheraton Guangzhou Hotel.
