PennWell Corporation, owner and manager of the internationally renowned POWER-GEN brand, has announced the inclusion of a Financial Forum under the umbrella of the upcoming POWER-GEN Asia conference and exhibition.
Covering every aspect of the Asian power generation industry, POWER-GEN Asia, Renewable Energy World Asia and the inaugural POWER-GEN Asia Financial Forum converge in 2014 to create ASEAN Power Week.
The combination of the 3 events, in 3 days, all under 1 roof will secure it as a forum for senior executives, industry leaders and senior engineers to discuss a range of important topics, covering the latest issues and solutions, in order to meet the challenge of the growing demand for electricity in the region, both conventional and alternative.
The 10-12 September will see Kuala Lumpur hosting ASEAN POWER WEEK and bringing together the largest collection of professionals involved in the power generation sector in Asia. This unique gathering creates an environment for business and networking at all levels.
With access to capital so critical to project development, the finance community has always been attracted to POWER-GEN Asia it enables them to experience firsthand the power generation technologies their lending facilitates. With the creation of the Financial Forum, we are able to offer more depth of conference content to serve this important group.
POWER-GEN Asia Financial Forum Conference Director, Mr. Nigel Blackaby says, “This new stand-alone event will enable both power industry professionals and those involved in power finance to come together to discuss and disseminate the future of the industry. It is a unique combination of key decision makers with mutual interests able to match finance with deal opportunities. Other financial events tend to involve bankers talking to bankers - and this is where the Financial Forum differs. The POWER-GEN Asia Financial Forum puts the finance community in touch with technology and opportunities that need financing. The scope will include finance of all types of power generation facilities and related infrastructure, including renewables”.
“This event has been established due to the financiers increasing need to understand trends, technologies and deal opportunities. We are looking to create these opportunities to learn and network among the largest gathering of Asia’s power industry professionals”.
This new addition to the brand follows on from the most successful POWER-GEN Asia event in its 22-year history, last year in Bangkok, Thailand, which brought together over 7,500 industry professionals from more than 70 countries worldwide alongside the co-located Renewable Energy World Asia
The conference programme for the POWER-GEN Asia Financial Forum has been put together by an Advisory Board, comprising consultants and high-level professionals from the world’s leading power industry and finance organizations.
The conference sessions will cover financing of all types of power generation facilities and related infrastructure including renewable in the ASEAN region, focusing on unique characteristics of individual regions or countries.

Attendees to the POWER-GEN Asia Financial Forum will learn about new opportunities, developments in current deals and trends across the ASEAN region, providing a 360° view of the industry that will inform decisions being made by the investment community The target audience for this event will build on the traditional POWER-GEN Asia audience of engineers, developers, utilities and government representatives, and looks to attract finance experts and intermediaries including venture capitalists and expert credit agencies.
“Some of the many challenges include the regulatory uncertainly that frequently prevents deals being completed and the changing position of sovereign guarantees. A greater understanding of these issues will provide attendees with the knowledge to take advantage of opportunities as they arise, which is the overall aim of the POWER-GEN Asia Financial Forum”, Mr. Blackaby concludes.
