Registration open for Sustainable Energy Technology Asia 2018

(Bangkok, 29 January 2018) – Asia’s key event showcasing clean energy technologies, Sustainable Energy & Technology Asia (SETA), will return for its third year from March 21 to 23 2018 at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC) Bang Na in Bangkok, Thailand. It will include a conference, a cleantech exhibition, and several networking events.

Themed Towards Consolidated Energy Technology, SETA 2018 will focus on how the digital revolution is transforming the energy sector, and how to scale up the adoption of clean energy solutions, including through collaboration and consolidation of both public- and private-sector efforts, and the pressing technological, regulatory, technical and financial challenges that need to be addressed in doing so.

Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, ACM Dr. Prajin Juntong, will open the conference. Dr Pichet Durongkaverote, Thailand’s Minister of Digital Economy and Society, will deliver the keynote speech, “Towards consolidation: Digitalisation and Thailand Energy 4.0”.

Kicking off the event will be a CEO Forum themed Future Energy Outlook, where business and government leaders will discuss both future energy policies and plans, as well as how current and future technologies can help address Asia’s rapidly expanding energy use.

The conference will then break into four tracks that address pressing issues in the energy space: Innovative Energy Technologies; Novel Energy Storage Technologies; Regional Interconnectivity: Power Grid, Oil and Gas pipelines, rail and road links; and Smart Urbanization.

DiGi-Energy, an exhibition providing insights into emerging technologies and approaches, networking events, and other co-located events will be held in conjunction with the conference.

Masakazu Toyoda, chairman of the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ), and co-chair of SETA, notes that SETA presents an ideal opportunity to bring together leaders and innovators, as well as those able to provide technical and market expertise, financial support and other kinds of partnership.

“To create a sustainable energy future for ASEAN, we need to propel proven innovations to market in a quicker timeframe,” he adds.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has estimated that to cap the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to 450 parts per million, an investment of US$8.3 trillion in energy efficiency measures will be required by 2030. Asia holds much potential for investments in energy and energy-related solutions that would also help it meet energy-intensity reduction targets.

IEA, in its World Energy Outlook 2017, notes that the developing economies of Asia Pacific are the global heavyweights in rising energy consumption. Developing countries in Asia account for two-thirds of global energy demand growth, with energy demand in Southeast Asia growing at twice the rate of China.

Eco-Business, a Singapore-based publication covering cleantech, sustainable development and responsible business is a media partner of SETA 2018. Jessica Cheam, managing editor, Eco-Business, said, “Providing energy that is affordable, abundant, and sustainable is one of the most pressing challenges for Asia Pacific, where economic growth is accelerating and about half a billion people still lack access to electricity. It is essential for business leaders, policymakers and researchers come together to exchange perspectives and solutions. SETA 2018 provides an ideal regional platform to do this.”

SETA 2018 is expected to draw some 100 speakers from 25 countries, and 150 exhibitors. Based on the level of interest in previous editions, it is expected that over 7,500 visitors from 50 countries will attend SETA 2018.
