Rudra Environmental Solutions bags Dynamic Asia Global Award for tackling India's plastic waste crisis

Singapore and India, 20th June 2019- Rudra Environmental Solutions, a subsidiary of Blue Planet Environmental Solutions, working to create valuable energy and material outputs from low-grade plastics was recognised as a key player in tackling plastic waste pollution in India.

Dr Medha Tadpatrikar, Director, Rudra Environmental Solutions said, “Awards are a realisation and push that we need to keep doing more and more.”

The company was awarded at the 1st Global Conference and Awards, Exhibition on Recycling, Waste Management, Environment, Climate Change, EPR and Circular Economy held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on the 15th and 16th of June. The conference was inaugurated by Shri V. Muraleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri Babul Supriyo, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Shri Ramdas Athawale, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment.

Curbing plastic pollution

Forty per cent of the 8 million tonnes of plastic waste generated each year comes from single-use packaging. In India, this waste is concentrated in highly dense urban areas where plastic pollution disrupts urban ecology and infrastructure.

The bulk of the plastic waste generated is not collected, segregated or recycled in the country; this ends up polluting water sources and soil, harming the urban ecosystem and eventually leaking into the natural environment.

Finding a sustainable way to deal with the growing plastic problem has never before been more critical in the country, particularly thin-film packaging plastics that have low recycling value.

Rudra Environmental Solutions, with the help of Blue Planet, provides a solution to this problem and has been recognised for its effort to do so in an innovative and environmentally positive way.

Prashant Singh, CEO, Blue Planet said, “Rudra has been a pioneer in finding solutions for end-of-life plastic, especially thin plastic, which traditionally has no or low monetary value. They align perfectly to Blue Planet’s strategy of creating a socially inclusive and end-to-end waste management platform for solving the ever-growing waste crisis. We are looking forward to expanding our plastic recycling projects across South-East Asia.”
