Ashden has launched its call for entries for the 2019 Ashden Awards, offering the chance for sustainable energy pioneers in the UK, developing countries and emerging economies to receive global recognition and up to £20,000 each for their efforts. An Ashden Award can have a transformative effect on the growth and impact of winning organisations.

Ashden winners become part of a very special club and can tap into the collective expertise of over 200 other Award-winning organisations. A unique package of post-win support includes introductions to policymakers, potential funders and investors, and, thanks to Ashden’s position as a convenor of sustainable energy expertise, opportunities to take part in events showcasing solutions.

In their 19th year, the Ashden Awards are an internationally recognised mark of excellence in the sustainable energy sector. The process is free and will result in 10 winners being rewarded at a prestigious ceremony at the Royal Geographical Society in London next summer.

The Ashden Awards are this year focussing on two key areas: liveable cities, and sustainable energy for inclusive development.
Winners in the liveable cities category will be delivering sustainable mobility solutions that reduce congestion and pollution, designing and building energy efficient buildings and demonstrating energy innovations including retrofit, design and construction.

In recognition of the crucial role sustainable energy plays in inclusive development Ashden is creating three new Awards in 2019: Clean Cooking, in association with Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves; Sustainable Energy and Healthcare; and Cooling for People, in association with K-CEP and Sustainable Energy for All. Alongside the new awards, Ashden will be looking for enterprises or programmes using and/or providing sustainable energy for productive uses.

Ashden also wants to hear from inclusive, trailblazing sustainable energy enterprises and programmes that are improving energy access in areas where markets for sustainable energy products and services are under-developed and energy access rates are low, including in humanitarian settings.

Speaking about the 2018 winners at this year’s Ashden Awards Ceremony, the former Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Christiana Figueres said: “To punch through the mythical barriers around climate change and work towards the common good it is necessary to be stubborn, optimistically stubborn. All of these fantastic winners have faced challenges, but their stubborn optimism in pursuing their goals is helping with the biggest challenge of all and that is climate change.”

The deadline for entries for the 2019 Ashden Awards is 6 November 2018 at 11.59pm GMT.
