Climate change is one of the most critical challenges facing humanity today. The growing global human population with its interrelated economic activities, forces higher consumption of the Earth’s fast depleting natural resources. The changes in the global climate system are being felt, with an increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather and climate events like heat and cold waves, heavy rainfall, drought, tropical cyclones and rising sea levels. While energy efficiency remains one of the most promising means to reducing greenhouse gases in the short term, energy conservation technology and facilities/equipment form only part of the approach to improve energy efficiency today , systematic management and the behavioural approach have become the core efforts to improve energy efficiency and save costs.

The World Engineers’ Summit (WES) 2013 with the theme “Innovative and Sustainable Solutions to Climate Change” will be held in conjunction with the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO) General Assembly from 9 to 15 September 2013 in Singapore. The Summit will include an International Conference and Exhibition on climate change, alongside another industry event – BuildEco Xpo (BEX) Asia – which will address sustainable and green solutions for the building sector. This convergence of events will allow leaders and engineers from multi-discipline specialties to congregate and share innovative and eco-friendly solutions and best practices drawn from around the world to meet the challenge of climate change.

Mr. Eric Gwo-Tai Huang, Global Product Manager for Energy and Sustainability from SGS Taiwan will speak on “Why Integrating Energy and Environmental Management Systems Can Improve Energy Performance and Reduce Costs” at this event. Mr. Huang will share with the attendees, the importance of systems and processes to improve energy performance, an understanding of the ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems certification and how an organization can achieve effective energy management, as well as key certification and business benefits of an energy management systems implementation. He will also highlight the numerous benefits for an organization to integrate their Energy Management Systems (ISO 50001) and Environment Management Systems (ISO 14001), and lastly will touch on several case studies of successful implementations. Interested delegates are welcome to join the Session 10: Integrated Environmental Management Systems presentation on September 13th, 4:00 pm at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre.
