The diversity of the modern food supply chain and its ever-changing dynamics creates many challenges for the food industry. Quality, safety and efficiency form key drivers in the food value chain and impact on not just the sustainability of the business but also the desirability of the product and the marketability of the business as a whole. In this event, SGS aims to help organizations continuously improve the quality, safety, performance and integrity of the food supply chain, manage sustainability and social responsibility, and develop talent that empowers organizations to build value and make the most of every opportunity to further excellence.
The ASEAN Food Conference (AFC) is a biennial event in which Singapore has hosted the first and sixth ASEAN Food Conferences in 1982 and 1997, respectively. This year, Singapore will be hosting the 13th ASEAN Food Conference at the MAX Atria, Singapore Expo from 9 to 11 September 2013. The Conference is organised by the Singapore Institute of Food Science & Technology (SIFST), in conjunction with the ASEAN-Committee on Science & Technology (ASEAN–COST) and the Federation of the Institute of Food Science and Technology in ASEAN (FIFSTA). The theme of this conference is “Meeting Future Food Demands: Security & Sustainability”, to reflect the challenges of future food demands due to natural disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons; global warming and population growth. The presentations by international and regional experts will cover a variety of topics from food security and food sustainability to food regulations and the current trends in the food industry.
Ms. Neo Geok Tin, Lead Auditor from SGS Singapore will be presenting “Ensuring a Safe Food Supply Chain in a Globalised Market” at this event. She will share with attendees, the challenges faced by the food industry in managing the performance of the food supply chain, an understanding of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), an overview of other globally recognized food safety management systems (FSMS) and how these standards can help ensure a sustainable food production and improve supply chain traceability. Ms. Neo will also highlight how SGS can assist in mitigating risks and improving efficiency at every stage of the food value chain from primary production to retail and hospitality so that an organization can meet their commitment to consumers, the environment and to social wellbeing; while at the same time helping them meet their own expectations of furthering excellence.
