After three months of feverish public voting, the International Green Awards™ is pleased to announce the shortlist for this year’s ‘Most Responsible Celebrity’ Award. With almost 10,000 votes logged, this year’s poll transcended geo-political boundaries.
The International Green Awards™ aims to raise the bar around the ‘cult of celebrity’. Initiated in 2011, the ‘Most Responsible Celebrity’ award recognises an international public figure who has promoted the global sustainability agenda. This award puts the spotlight on those progressive individuals who are keen to harness the power of the media, challenge conventional thinking on the climate agenda and who are really ahead of the game by ‘doing their bit’ for the future of us all.
Adjudicated by a public vote, this year’s shortlist, in alphabetical order, is:
- Ian Somerhalder - Actor/ Model; USA
- Livia Firth - Eco-preneur; UK
- Nadya Hutagalung - Eco-Activist, TV Personality; INDONESIA/SINGAPORE
One celebrity from the above shortlists has secured the most votes and will be announced as the winner at our gala ceremony on Tuesday, 20th November at Battersea Power Station, London. The winner will then be internationally celebrated as the most environmentally and socially responsible celebrity.
Last year’s winner, international supermodel Gisele Bündchen, said in her acceptance speech “I have been blessed with the opportunity to bring attention to environmental causes; they are dear to my heart.” She also thanked her fans for voting and said of the award “Thank you for this special honour, I am filled with gratitude.”
The International Green Awards™ will be announcing this year’s winner at the iconic Battersea Power Station, an appropriate venue in light of this year’s ‘UN International Year of Sustainable Energy for All’, on Tuesday 20th November. The evening will also celebrate the winners of this year’s awards programme across 7 categories.
Nadya Hutagalung, Model, Eco-Activist and TV Personality from Indonesia and Singapore commented “Being nominated amongst all the other incredibly established nominees was such a huge honour. Now to be listed as a finalist in the International Green Awards™, I am at once lost for words and yet at the same time incredibly grateful that we have the opportunity to raise awareness about the issues we are facing in Asia and the amazing individuals who are striving to make a difference.”
