South-East Europe on the road of Sustainable Development

The latest World Bank’s report calls governments for urgent measures to stop global warming. It recommends them to put more than US$ 1 trillion, which are now used as a subsidy for fossil fuel, for better use – in sustainable and smart development.

South-East Europe is a part of the green energy global transformation. Environmental issues are of high priority in these countries and the market in the relevant sectors is in need of experience, modern technology products and equipment.

Energy efficiency, renewable energy and smart buildings are the hot topics of the annual Eco Forum and Exhibition for South-East Europe. The event is organized by Via Expo in the period 29-31 May 2013 in IEC, Sofia, Bulgaria.

These sectors have a very good growth potential and in this connection, Maya Kristeva, CEO of Via Expo, says: “Our main goal as an organizer, is to contribute to the creation of the best environment for doing business between foreign and local companies offering innovative technologies which can be implemented successfully in the Region. Markets are very dynamic and the businesses have to be more flexible by exploring new marketplaces.”

The event will present the current trends and the opportunities for win-win partnerships in South-East Europe.

The recently adopted Energy Efficiency Directive obliges EU Member States to renovate annually 3 % public buildings. Energy distributors and/or retail energy sales companies have to achieve by the end of 2020 a cumulative end-use energy savings target of 1.5 % of the annual energy sales to final consumers.

According to the Directive all new buildings must be zero-energy from 2021. The intensive development of the green energy in South-East Europe enforces the necessity of significant investments in smart grid technology.

Some highlights of the 2013 edition of the event:

  • Building integrated photovoltaics - the integrated photovoltaic roof and façade systems are the fastest growing segment in the PV industry. Experts identify South-East Europe as ‘remarkable new markets’ and the close cooperation between construction companies, architects and suppliers of solar components determines the green building boom in the Region.
  • Energy storage, bio energy, waste-to-energy, energy efficiency solutions, smart buildings
  • Italian and Austrian Pavilions
  • Comprehensive program with keynote speakers
