StarHub customers can save planet with StarHub Rewards Points

Singapore, 22 March 2013 – StarHub customers can now do their bit to save our planet using their StarHub Rewards Points. From 22 March 2013, under StarHub’s Rewards Redemption programme, customers can redeem a $5 tax-deductible donation to the World Wide Fund for Nature (Singapore) Limited Conservation Fund (WWFSCF).

This is not the first time that StarHub has introduced an option for their customers to use their StarHub Rewards Points to donate to a worthy cause. In addition to redeeming points for vouchers, products and services, StarHub’s Rewards Redemption for Charity programme—launched in February 2009—allowed customers to redeem a donation to MINDS Towner Gardens School. Towner Gardens School provides critical services and specialised education programmes for children aged 4 to 18 years with intellectual disabilities. The addition of WWFSCF lends an environmental aspect to its Rewards Redemption catalogue and is part of StarHub’s Earth Hour efforts this year.

“We will already be supporting Earth Hour by dimming lights and switching off television sets at our retail shops and Customer Service Centres around the island from 8:30pm till 9:30pm on Saturday 23 March 2013,” said Mr Tan Tong Hai, Chief Executive Officer, StarHub. “In this way, StarHub will be joining the rest of the planet once again to reduce electricity and greenhouse gas emissions.

“However, we also believe in long-term and inclusive solutions. That is why on 31 March 2012, we introduced electronic waste recycling bins for the public at our Customer Service Centres last year,” he continued. “That programme has since expanded to a total of 39 bins at 21 locations across the island, and I am proud to say that we have since seen 3.87 tonnes of electronic waste recycled.”

StarHub is the only local telco that offers customers the opportunity to make a positive social or environmental impact using their StarHub Rewards Points. StarHub customers can visit www.starhub.com/rewards to redeem their donations to WWFSCF or MINDS Towner Gardens School.

“StarHub is deeply committed to being an environmentally conscious corporate citizen and caring for the natural world,” explained Mr Tan, “and if we can involve our customers, that is even better. We hope that by providing customers with the option to redeem a donation to WWFSCF, we can raise awareness and funds for WWFSCF and encourage even more Singaporeans to go green.”
