As a provider of electronic services and products, StarHub believes in the responsible disposal of electronic products, for ourselves and for our consumers. On 31 March 2012, StarHub celebrated Earth Hour by launching Singapore’s first electronic waste (e-waste) recycling programme for consumers. We started with five bins, mainly at our Customer Service Centres, and have collected over one tonne of e-waste in less than five months. But we wanted to do more.
In partnership with TES-AMM, StarHub has arranged for 34 more e-waste bins at Community Centres, condominiums and schools around Singapore, making it even easier for consumers to recycle their e-waste. The bins are provided at StarHub’s expense while collection costs are borne by TES-AMM.
“Although e-waste is one of the most toxic waste products of all, limited avenues exist for consumers to responsibly discard their old electronic products,” said Adam Tan, CSR Manager, StarHub. “We wanted to drive consumer recycling of e-waste by making it more convenient for them to find somewhere to recycle their e-waste.
“StarHub is a responsible corporate citizen,” he added, sharing that TES-AMM and StarHub do not get any profits from this effort. “We are just trying to help the community take better care of our shared environment.”
