Sunlabob Renewable Energy hires engineering and communication leaders

Sunlabob Renewable Energy, a Laos-based social enterprise specializing in renewable energy and clean water projects in developing regions around the world, announced the hiring of two department leaders, signaling the company’s continued growth. Antony Watkins will be the Head of Engineering and Evan Scandling will act as Head of Communications.

“The level of industry expertise and amount of international experience that Antony and Evan bring to the table are a strong demonstration of Sunlabob’s upward trajectory as a premier provider of renewable energy and clean water solutions in developing areas of the world,” said Andy Schroeter, Sunlabob founder and CEO.

Watkins, who specializes in renewable energy and earth sciences, was most recently a researcher for the Challenge Grant on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) focused on the water-energy nexus of the Mekong River region. Previously, he implemented an energy management program that included renewable energies and grid-tied solar power for large medical facilities in the United States. Watkins has also worked as a senior engineer in the oil and gas exploration industry in Central and South America and Africa. His education includes four post-graduate degrees focusing on applied physics and engineering, sustainable development, eco-technologies, earth sciences and business studies.

Scandling most recently worked in the Energy & Clean Tech practice of APCO Worldwide, a global communications consulting firm. Based in the United States, he managed communications initiatives for renewable energy and clean technology clients globally, ranging from early-stage start-up companies and multinational corporations to national government initiatives. He has implemented communications programs for a variety of clean technology sectors including wind and solar power, small scale hydro, electric vehicles (EVs) and green building. Scandling also acted as a co-chair of public relations for a regional chapter of the Cleantech Open, a business incubation competition focused on catalyzing promising clean technology entrepreneurs.

Watkins and Scandling join more than 40 employees at Sunlabob, which is headquartered in Vientiane, Laos, and implements renewable energy and clean water access projects in rural areas throughout Asia, Africa, India and the Pacific Islands.
