Syngenta partners with Garden City Fund in supporting our City in a Garden

Syngenta on August 3 announced a partnership with National Parks Board’s (NParks) registered charity and IPC, Garden City Fund (GCF) to help contribute to Singapore’s vision of a City in a Garden. Two projects — The Ubin Project and NParks’ Every Child a Seed Programme — will be covered under the partnership to benefit Pulau Ubin, local schools and communities.

NParks’ Every Child a Seed programme offers children an opportunity to grow their own plants by providing them with a plant starter kit comprising of a pot, potting mix and seeds. The programme aims to raise awareness and appreciation of the challenges in growing plants and the joy of seeing plants grow. Syngenta staff are volunteering by providing planting advice and answering children’s questions about how to best grow plants.

The partnership complements The Good Growth Plan, which sets out Syngenta’s commitment to sustainable development. The Plan covers six specific targets related to improving resource efficiency, rejuvenating ecosystems and revitalizing rural communities.

“This partnership with NParks and GCF provides an opportunity for Syngenta to bring to life one of our commitments — Help Biodiversity Flourish — in the Singapore context,” said Cindy Lim, Head of Sustainable Productivity APAC. “We are proud to make a small contribution towards Singapore’s journey to conserve our natural heritage, especially as we celebrate SG50 this year.”

“The contribution of Syngenta to the Garden City Fund will go towards supporting various greening efforts in Singapore. We would like to especially thank the staff of Syngenta for their upcoming participation in reforestation efforts at Pulau Ubin, and contributions towards NParks’ Every Child a Seed programme. Their time and effort will go towards enhancing our natural heritage, as well as instilling a deeper appreciation for nature in our future generations,” said Dr Leong Chee Chiew, Commissioner of Parks and Recreation, NParks.

Since the launch of The Good Growth Plan in 2013, Syngenta has entered into partnerships with worldwide and local organizations to address the critical challenges the world faces in sustainably feeding a growing population.
