From Districts to Central Plants: Texcare Asia 2013 highlights the evolving textile care industry

Exhibitors and supporters share equal enthusiasm for the 2013 show

Texcare Asia Forum to promote the latest developments in professional textile care

With five months to go, Asia’s most highly-anticipated biennial fair for textile care, Texcare Asia, will present the latest technologies and solutions for the ever-evolving industry. The show will be held at Shanghai New International Expo Centre from 19 – 21 November, where approximately 150 exhibitors are expected to utilise over 11,500 sqm of space. Products and solutions on display will include the latest in laundry, dry-cleaning, ironing and dyeing machinery as well as textile management systems. The three-day show anticipates 8,000 visitors to attend from China and around the world.

One of the biggest trends to be highlighted this year is the evolution of China’s laundry and dry-cleaning industry from district-based locations to central plants. Like most other markets, operators of drycleaners and laundries in China have traditionally tailored their businesses to district-based operations that included local dry-cleaning outlets and commercial laundries. This strategy allowed them to meet the immediate demands of their customers in rapid time. However this business model is quickly going out of fashion in China, as district-based facilities have oversaturated their local markets and the cost of operation has increased dramatically.

In addition, challenges brought upon by stricter energy and water efficiency has made this traditional business model all-but impossible for companies to maintain.

To sustain their businesses, dry-cleaning outlets and laundry operators are looking more into developing central plants where majority of their services can be done more efficiently. This has led to a high level of capital investment by central plant operators in China into the latest machines that can utilise alternative energy, such as oil or gas instead of coal, as well as reduce wastewater. State-of-the-art machines that are growing in demand include tunnel washers, finishers, RFIDs, spreaders and feeders, chest-type flatwork ironers, dosing systems and much more. O3 washing systems have also become more in-demand by central plant operators as well as non-steam laundry systems.

Exhibitors and supporters share equal enthusiasm for the 2013 show

Some of the industry’s most well-respected brands and associations will participate at Texcare Asia 2013. Their goal is to address growing issues and demands of Chinese textile care suppliers. Sharing his views on his company’s participation, Mr Thomas Yin, Country Manager of JENSEN Group’s regional office in Shanghai commented: “Our company has been present in Asia for decades, and has a very strong reputation among the region’s textile care professionals. We’ve seen immense growth in demand for our heavy-duty laundry devices. We return once again to Texcare Asia due to the great success we had at the last edition. Our goal is to meet our existing customers, and find new ones.”

Fellow exhibitor Castic-SMP Machinery Corp Ltd, sites Texcare Asia’s brand influence and professionalism as contributing factors to their participation. Mr Johnson Fok, Sales Director shared: “Texcare Asia is the largest industry event in the region, and the most important show in China. The fair has a history of introducing the latest techniques and strategies to industry professionals. Our presence at the show has been particularly effective for publicising our corporate identity, increasing brand recognition and expanding sales channels.”

For Shanghai Shenguang Laundry Machinery Group Co Ltd, they plan to showcase their innovative products and solutions at the 2013 fair. Mr Liao Ming, General Manager expressed: “Texcare Asia offers the best platform for laundry equipment suppliers and manufacturers. The show gathers the latest technology, products and creative concepts in the industry, providing a platform for great business opportunities. We believe the exhibition will be of great benefit to our series of washers and ironing machines.”

For each edition, Texcare Asia manages to gain the support of a number of leading industry associations. The 2013 show is no different. Mr Benson Li, the chairman of the Laundry Association of Hong Kong commented on their participation, “As living standards rise in China, the laundry market has grown rapidly. Now, the industry’s development strongly relies on the adoption of advanced solutions such as automation technology. Texcare Asia offers an unparallel platform in highlighting this technology. My association will organise a group of industry players from Hong Kong and Macau to visit the show, and we look forward to meeting the industry’s leading suppliers from around the world.”
