Hong Kong - The Redress Forum 2014 is a two-day seminar in Hong Kong that asks ‘What is the future of the fashion industry?’
Over the last 10 years, we have heard much ‘noise’ about the need for sustainability in the fashion industry. During this, we have witnessed a wide range of more sustainable fashion manufacturing and product development ideas and practices emerge around the world. But are the same drivers that brought us to this point today still steering us forwards? Today, when it comes to sustainability, we have a better-informed fashion industry and consumer, all of whom want long-term, commercially-viable and impactful sustainable solutions. But how do we get there?
The Redress Forum will explore the challenges and opportunities faced by Asian and European designers, manufacturers and retailers as they strive to embrace more environmentally sustainable practices to discover the new drivers determining the road ahead.
The Redress Forum is organised by Redress, with its major sponsor being Create Hong Kong, in collaboration with Hong Kong Trade and Development Council (HKTDC). It will be held alongside The EcoChic Design Award 2013 Grand Final and during Hong Kong Fashion Week.
Monday 13 January 2014: Designer Challenge with Miele
Day one, by invitation only, is an eight-hour educational workshop collaboratively held by Redress, Miele and Textile Environmental Design (TED), which explores how fashion designers can design for more sustainable consumer care during usage at the initial design stage. The workshop takes the eight The EcoChic Design Award 2013 Finalists and 12 Hong Kong designers on an educational experience in a secondhand clothing recycling warehouse followed by two separate sessions for the designers to re-think fashion and learn new techniques that can give discarded clothes a new life and keep them in the fashion loop.

Day two is a full-day seminar of panel discussions and workshops, which is supported by the Hong Kong Trade and Development Council (HKTDC), which takes place during Hong Kong Fashion Week. The seminar is free to attend and is open to all fashion industry professionals, students and media.
