Tuu, the sustainability tracking and education platform for schools, has launched its “10% Challenge” – a 100-school race to reduce energy and water consumption on campus by 10%.
The student-led challenge, which puts pupils at the heart of sustainability data tracking, analysis and improvement, aims to save at least 400,000 tons of carbon by 31st May 2024.
“Today’s students are tomorrow’s green leaders and this challenge gives them agency to make a tangible difference in the place they spend most of their time when they are not at home,” said Terry Blackburn, founder of Tuu.
“By joining the 10% Challenge, schools can educate and empower their students about climate action, reduce carbon emissions on campus and save money on utility bills,” said Blackburn.
Tuu has schools from the Middle East, China and Southeast Asia already signed up to the 10% Challenge.
“Prince of Wales Island International School feels it has a social and ethical responsibility to minimise its environmental impact,” said Samuel Hodge, Deputy Principal of POWIIS Penang, Malaysia.
“By participating in the 10% Challenge schools can incorporate environmental awareness and sustainability principles into their curriculum with live data… this offers students the chance to learn about real-world sustainability challenges and solutions.”
All 10% Challenge schools get free access to a lite version of Tuu’s sustainability tracking dashboard for the duration of the challenge, free access to the “Intro to Sustainability” Extra Curricular Activity online course for eco-committee members, a 100-page Teacher Resource Pack and a Teacher Certification Course.
To join the free initiative, interested schools can read more about the 10% Challenge and register interest by filling out this form. The challenge begins from November 1st 2023.
