Ariana is a researcher at WRI’s Forests Initiative, working primarily with land use issues focusing on Southeast Asia. Her work focuses on land use challenges in tropical forested countries, including forest governance, forest monitoring, sustainable agriculture, and commodities (notably palm oil). Ariana also researches low-carbon development plans and the intersection between environmental sustainability and economic growth. She coordinates all Indonesia-related work across the Institute.
A macroeconomist, Ariana was previously a research assistant at the Institute for Social and Economic Research at the University of Indonesia in Jakarta, focusing on energy policy and regional energy security within Southeast Asia. Previously she worked at Planete Urgence in Paris, a non-profit aiming to involve ordinary citizens in international development. As an undergraduate, she was part of the Indonesian delegation to the UNFCCC COP 16 in Cancun, Mexico.
Ariana graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in Economics and Environmental Policy. She is a native speaker of English and Indonesian, and is also fluent in French.
