Rebecca Pearl-Martinez is CIERP Research Fellow and Head of the Renewable Equity Project at the Fletcher School. The Renewable Equity Project (REP) explores the impact of women’s advancement on the clean energy economy. Rebecca also consults on a variety of international projects, including the Global Gender and Environment Outlook of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Power Africa.
Previously, Rebecca led a global consultation process and authored the USAID white paper Women at the Forefront of the Clean Energy Future, and developed a global composite index on gender and environment that was nominated for a Katerva Award. As consultant to UNDP, Rebecca co-founded and served as the first head of the Global Gender and Climate Alliance, an inter-agency initiative of UN agencies and civil society to advance gender equality in international climate change negotiations. She was the Senior Researcher for Climate Change at Oxfam America, where she led research on climate change related workforce data, national governance of adaptation finance, and agricultural climate change mitigation.
She also served as a Visiting Lecturer on climate change governance at Tufts University. Rebecca led the global Women’s Major Group process for the 2002 UN World Summit on Sustainable Development and started her career at the UN Andean Region office based in Ecuador and with community development initiatives in Nicaragua. She holds an MA in Sustainable International Development from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University.
