Bangkok hotel to adopt Japanese energy saving technology

Chugoku Electric Power Co., Inc. announced July 19 that it would conduct an energy conservation demonstration project with a hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. High efficiency air conditioning and water heating equipment will be combined with Japanese energy conservation technology and the effectiveness verified.

The contract was signed on July 15 with Amari Hotels and Resorts, a company that owns hotels in Thailand. The verification will be conducted over the next two years at the company’s Amari Watergate Bangkok hotel. Estimated energy savings of about 17% are anticipated.

Rapid growth of energy consumption in Thailand has resulted in promotion of energy conservation becoming an urgent issue. The objective of this project is to establish and disseminate energy conservation technologies that have been commercialized in Japan. The project cost will be 300 million yen for Chugoku Electric Power and 40 million yen for Amari.

Technologies to be implemented include high efficiency chillers, high efficiency boilers, hybrid water heater system and LED (light emitting diode) lighting. Ordering, transport and installation of the equipment will be conducted during fiscal 2011 while demonstration operation and dissemination activities are planned from fiscal 2012.
