China and EU hold back on climate commitments

China and the European Union have scaled back their outlooks for the UN climate negotiations, which is currently being held in Doha, Qatar. China’s climate negotiators had ruled out a cap for greenhouse gas emissions by developing nations by 2020 admitting that adopting the cuts will not be realistic as it would dampen their growth. The EU, on the other hand, has expressed doubt on the capacity of the 27-nation bloc to meet commitments for climate aid to poorer countries.
