Chinese officials urge greener industries

China has resolved to clean up its industries in the next decade by installing more clean technologies and using more clean energy, according to officials. Low-carbon technology for the the power industry in particular will be targeted within the next five years to help China meet its domestic targets for limiting carbon emissions and reducing its energy intensity, which is the amount of energy required to produce each unit of gross domestic product.

The Republic’s rapid industrialization has the power sector struggling to keep up with energy demand. China has led expansion in renewable energy sectors such as solar and wind, but it continues to build new coal-powered plants as well.
