Crops are migrating north in the United States as weather patterns change, causing severe drought and about US$25 billion in crop insurance payouts. In America’s cornbelt, farmers are trying to find more drought-tolerant plants to cope with worsening growing conditions - while in northern regions, corn is suddenly looking profitable.
Meanwhile, the food price escalations that many feared would result from this drought - and others around the world - have so far held off. Experts say that crop losses have not been as bad as expected.
