Desal plant promises drinking water boost

A water desalination plant at Avoca, north-west of Ballarat, will improve the town’s water quality to drinking standard.

The $4.5 million system will be turned on today.

Water Minister Peter Walsh says it will supplement water from the nearby reservoir with desalinated groundwater from a new bore.

“This is a great outcome for the residents, it’s been a long time coming but it’s finally there and today we’re actually turning on the tap to what will be a good, reliable water supply for Avoca in the future,” he said.
