Doosan Vina wins largest desalination project

Doosan Heavy Industries Vietnam (Doosan Vina) announced it would soon begin manufacturing desalination evaporators for the world’s largest ever desalination order at its plant in the central province of Quang Ngai.

The contract was signed recently between Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, the parent firm of Doosan Vina, and Saudi Arabia, Doosan Vina said in a statement.

The order is for eight evaporators for the Ras Az Zawr project in Saudi Arabia. The completed project will be capable of producing 728 million liters of fresh water per day which is enough to meet the daily fresh water needs of 2,000,000 people.

Of the eight units, Doosan Vina’s desalination manufacturing workshop in Dung Quat Economic Zone of the province will be responsible for producing three of the evaporators, which will contribute a daily capacity of 273 million liters of fresh water per day.

Each of the football field sized evaporator units will weigh almost 4,000 tons and be 10.6 meters high, 29.2 meters wide and 100.4 meters long, says the statement.

In Doosan Vina’s initial desalination project it manufactured the first ever “Made in Vietnam” desalination evaporator. It is now busy providing 91 million liters of clean healthy water for a quarter million people in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Doosan uses the high tech multi-stage steam and multi-stage flash processes to produce clean healthy water for people worldwide.

Doosan Vina is a US$300 million investment in Dung Quat Economic Zone. The five business units of Doosan Vina in the zone are boiler, material handling equipment, heat recovery steam generator, desalination and chemical processing equipment. The factories and offices have a total of 150,000 square meters of enclosed space.

Doosan Vina’s five factories manufacture major infrastructure equipment for the power, water, logistics, and chemical industries worldwide.

The parent company, Doosan Heavy Industries of Korea, is a global enterprise operating in 33 countries with over 35,000 employees.
