Eco-friendly activities presented at South West district event

Residents in the South West district will find it easier to go green, with eco-friendly activities presented at a community event on Sunday.

The community event featured Singapore’s largest eco-garden, with 10 garden plots designed by students from 10 schools. The blooms in the garden are made of recycled materials like plastic bottles and old newspapers.

It was part of an event organised by Dairy Farm Singapore in partnership with the South West Community Development Council (CDC) and the National Environment Agency (NEA).

The event was titled “A Community Engaged - Our Sustainability, My Responsibility”.

It was held at the open field next to the Jurong Regional Library, opposite JCube shopping mall.

Amy Khor, mayor of South West district, said: “This event today, organised by the South West CDC together with National Environment Agency and DFS Singapore, really is an event that encourages the community to take ownership and responsibility for the environment as well as for the vulnerable in the community.”

She added: “We have encouraged our residents, through the schools, through our grassroots leaders, to download a very convenient mobile application, that’s the Intraix, to help them track their energy usage and also promote energy-efficient as well as eco-friendly habits and lifestyles among the residents. So in this way, they can save energy, help to conserve the environment, reduce their electricity and water bills, and at the same time, with every five downloads, DFS Singapore, together with South West CDC, has pledged a donation of S$100 worth of healthy food rations and energy-efficient products to the needy.”
