Eco-products international fair kicks off in Taipei

The Eco-Products International Fair 2014 opened March 13 at the Taipei World Trade Center, underscoring the commitment of the ROC government to strengthening Taiwan’s position in the global green industry supply chain.

Hosted by Taiwan for the first time in its 11-year history, the four-day EPIF is the biggest to date and features 207 exhibitors from 15 countries. It comprises trade shows and professional forums, as well as offering traditional business-to-business, business-to-customer and business-to-government functions.

The event is co-organised by the Bureau of Foreign Trade under the ROC Ministry of Economic Affairs and Tokyo-based Asian Productivity Organization.

During the opening ceremony, Deputy MOEA Minister Shen Jong-chin said the ministry has been working to assist Taiwan businesses tap green procurement opportunities abroad through its Green Trade Promotion Project and green electricity tariff program.

Scheduled to be implemented in Taiwan next year, the latter is expected to help homegrown companies obtain certification for carbon reduction.

Peter W. J. Huang, president and CEO of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), said Taiwan’s prime location in the Western Pacific and close interactions with mainland China make it an ideal regional gateway for global green enterprises.

Case in point is the establishment of the APO Center of Excellence on Green Productivity in Taipei last year, APO Secretary-General Mari Amano said. This demonstrates the pioneering role Taiwan plays in raising the awareness of green productivity and its contribution to the worldwide green community, he added.
