Explore green technology sector, says Peter Chin

The financial and business community in Sabah should utilise the Green Technology Financing Scheme (GTFS) to explore the green technology sector, thus assisting in bringing about a more sustainable future to the nation.

Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui said the GTFS) was launched by the government last year to attract private sector participation in green technology entrepreneurship.

“The Malaysia Green Technology Corporation together with the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers will continue the green technology roadshow to a few selected states this year to promote the financial incentive for the consumption of the industries at large,” he told a seminar on green technology on Monday.

The text of his speech was delivered on his behalf by the ministry’s Deputy Secretary General (Green Technology and Water Sector) Nor Aini Abd Wahab.

Chin said as of Dec 24, 2010, GreenTech Malaysia had certified 68 projects as “Green Projects” and was currently processing more than 20 applications.

“In total, the scheme is expected to benefit 140 companies by end of 2012,” he said.

The minister also said Sabah had six green technology projects certified under GTFS and four of the intended projects would involve the construction of electricity power plants from renewable energy sources.

Another project would involve the development of waste management and composting plant while the sixth project would involve the construction of a plant to produce pellets using empty fruit bunches.

On another development, Chin said a major promotional programme, the International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia 2011 (IGEM 2011), would be held between Sept 7 and Sept 10 in Kuala Lumpur.

Later, elaborating on the annual exhibition, Nor Aini said more participants are expected to take part in the event which raked in RM1.2 billion in business dealings last year.
