Donald Chan, the former Asia head of environmental disclosure non-profit CDP, has joined Asia Research & Engagement, a sustainability research firm that focuses on the investment community.

Chan left CDP amid a restructure of the organisation earlier this year, which saw regional roles removed globally after the appointment of a new chief executive. Since leaving CDP, he has worked on a series of projects on a contract basis.

He joins ARE as chief operating officer, based in Singapore.

In a press statement, managing director Ben McCarron said Chan was hired for his experience across multiple sectors and his ability to lead and operationalise organisations as ARE expands in key Asian markets.

Former fund manager McCarron founded ARE in 2013. Headquartered in Signapore, the organisation has a presence in India, China, and Japan. ARE’s current areas of focus are the energy transition and sustainable protein. It’s most recent publication scrutinised the transition of Asian food buyers towards sustainable proteins.

Chan joined CDP in 2021 and oversaw the organisation in Delhi, Beijing, Singapore, Jakarta, Tokyo, and Hong Kong.

He joined CDP from Temasek, where he was involved in setting up new ventures such as Climate Impact X, Singapore’s carbon exchange and marketplace. Over his career, he has also worked for Monetary Authority of Singapore, Singapore’s central bank and regulator, and mobile operator Circles.Life.
