Governments call for urgent action on climate change

Governments gathered at the UN climate talks in Doha have called for urgent action to avoid the perils of climate change. At the opening ceremony, South African Foreign Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane said that immediate action is needed to avoid a global catastrophe for the next generation. China’s chief climate negotiator Su Wei also called on developed economies to take a leading role in the talks and to honor their commitments on cutting down carbon emissions and on providing climate funding to help poorer nations cope with climate change.
