Govt goes all out to promote green energy

The villages and government offices in rural areas in the state will soon be lit up with power generated from renewable sources.

The government has decided to put in nearly Rs450 crore to promote power generation through renewable sources in a bid to gradually turn government offices self-reliant on power front in rural areas.

According to secretary, new and renewable energy department, S R Mohanty, the government was targeting to generate additional 3100 MW of power through renewable sources by the end of next year or beginning of 2014. The state, currently, produces 457 MW of power through renewable sources.

Unlike the non-renewable energy, the renewable energy, he said was not only cost effective but also pollution free and made each household that adopted to it self-reliant in power.
