From September, the Government will pay RM14.80 per house to three concessionaires that are appointed to ensure that solid waste management are operated more efficiently in city areas.
National Solid Waste Management director-general Datuk Dr Nadzri Yahaya said the Government had decided to replace the old service charge of RM8 per house since 1997.
“This will ensure that the service provided by these concessionaires is up to standard as the Government has introduced several methods for them to get the payment.
“Concessionaires must meet their Key Performance Index (KPI) targets to ensure they get the payment,” he said after opening the Johor Waste Management Contractors Asso-ciation general assembly meeting here yesterday.
He added that the three appointed companies are Southern Waste Management Sdn Bhd for the southern region, Alam Flora Sdn Bhd for the central and eastern regions, and E-Idaman Sdn Bhd for the northern region.
Dr Nadzri also said the new service charge was a result of higher petrol prices, staff wages, and to cover costs of lorry parts.
He also said the same rate would be paid for every house in municipal areas from September 1 next year and to district council areas in 2014 on condition that the concessionaires or appointed contractors used new garbage trucks.
“The concession company or selected contractors should also provide new garbage bins for houses. The public will not pay a single sen as we will absorb the fees,” he said.
Dr Nadzri also urged those with complaints about solid waste management in their areas to contact the National Solid Waste Management Department at the toll-free number 1800-88-7472.
