John West to phase out unsustainable fishing practices

Canned tuna company John West said it will be phasing out unsustainable fishing practices such as purse seine netting and other fish aggregation devices by 2015. This after a six-week campaign by environmental group Greenpeace through consumer pressure. John West had made previous commitments to lessen by-catch and stop fishing juvenile tuna. The company said the move will not affect the price of their products. Other Australian brands which have made similar commitments to sustainable fishing are Greenseas, Safcol and Sirena.
