Malaysia has ranked as one of the world’s 61 top polluters, new findings by Germanwatch and Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe show. Malaysia placed 55th in the Climate Change Performance Index which are based on the emission levels, development of emissions, renewable energies, efficiency and climate policy of countries. Ministry of National Resources and Environment deputy secretary general Abdul Rahim Nik said Malaysia’s poor rating is due to its rapid industrialisation, uncontrolled emissions of toxic waste products and its rampant deforestation.
