Modern communication technology can cut emissions

Today’s efficient information and communication technology can cut the world’s growing emissions. A new study by The Boston Consulting Group on behalf of GeSI shows that the carbon reduction potential through ICT is seven times bigger than the direct emissions of the ICT industry. Using ICT like video conferencing and smart building management, it said, can cut emissions by up to 16.5 per cent by 2020. This reduction translates to about $1.9 trillion in gross savings from energy and fuel.
