New biofuel ambitions for Vietnam

Vietnamese officials announced a new programme to require biofuel-blended transport fuel nationwide by the end of 2015. Six manioc-based domestic ethanol plants are expected to produce over 300,000 cubic metres of biofuel each year. Uptake of current supplies has been slow, with many petrol vendors unwilling to pay the upfront costs for new pumps, and Vietnam has been selling surplus biofuel at a loss to China, South Korea and the Philippines.
