New green building rating to be introduced

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation will introduce a new green building rating system wherein a building constructed on plot area below 2,500 sq.m. can obtain the rating.

The standing committee has approved a resolution to start the system. The resolution stated that the civic body had started the system of green rating for integrated habitat assessment (GRIHA) in the municipal limits to promote construction of green buildings on plots which have an area of more than 2,500 sqm.

The buildings get one to five stars as per the points earned. The buildings get concession in premium charges which is 10 times the number of stars obtained in rating system. The three, four and five star rating buildings get five, eight and ten percent concession in general tax, a component of the property tax.
