New guide on green practices for construction industry launched

A new guide on best green practices for the construction industry has been launched Tuesday.

The manual, called the “Green and Gracious Builder Guide”, provides information on innovative green solutions.

Such solutions and technologies help to support the industry in the adoption of sustainable green practices.

Launching the guide Tuesday, Senior Minister of State for National Development Grace Fu says the best practices were compiled from measures adopted by builders.

These builders have been recognised under the “Green and Gracious Builders” scheme.

Other than promoting sustainable buildings and construction, Ms Fu says the government has encouraged green practices in the industry in two ways.

One is putting in place design standards and practice codes to allow and facilitate the recycling of construction materials.

Another is to support capability building at the firm and worker level to advance the use of sustainable construction methods.

For example, firms can tap on the recently launched $15 million dollar-Sustainable Construction Capability Development Fund to build up their capability.

Ms Fu was speaking Tuesday morning at the official opening of the ASEAN Constructors Federation Conference.
