Nuclear energy a reality for the future: Ranawaka

Nuclear energy is a definite option for future power generation in Sri Lanka but no clear cut decision has been taken up to now on modalities and policies, Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said yesterday.

Commenting on news reports appearing in the Indian press that India and Russia were keen to introduce nuclear energy for peaceful exploitation in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, Minister Ranawaka said Sri Lanka would have to use nuclear energy for power generation in future as it is cheap, clean and hassle free.
